I just stumbled onto your blog. Good job! I'm sorry it's not working out for you as planned but don't give up! My friend is fishing off of a 50' steel hull sailbot out of Seward Alaska. He has 2 jigging machines that he found for $400 used that he uses for pacific cod and he started longlining for the short Black Cod (Sable Fish) season. He is anchoring the skates. As long as you pick gear from down wind he hasn't had to many problems. Although you have to keep the boat idling to run the hydrolic reel. And you need 2 people to pick gear. He uses hardly any fuel. Good luck!
I haven't entirely given up, but after all the work I've been doing on the boat - which is documented on the link above 'Next', I fancy a voyage to the tropics before I get back to it.

Hi Steve,
